Paul Baker and Carolyne Ferguson, Kier Highways, will be talking about the M23 Smart Motorway project. This will cover the project from concept (why the M23 was chosen as a smart motorway) through to near-completion. The presentation will also include some details of the new initiatives that have been used on this project, particularly in relation to the customer (Highways England) and the local communities, and in relation to worker well-being and mental health.

Paul Baker is the Project Director for the M23 in Surrey and the M20 in Kent currently in construction and both due to finish in Spring 2020. Having worked in the construction industry for most of his working life, Paul understands the business and the limitations imposed on any major project.  Delivering the three imperatives from Highways England of Safety, Customer and Delivery, Paul constantly strives to maintain a safe working environment for all staff whilst managing expectations from the client, stakeholders and customers.

Carolyne Ferguson is the Senior stakeholder, communications and customer liaison manager for the M23 smart motorway project.  Having spent over 10 years in the construction industry, Carolyne appreciate the needs to gain  buy-in from stakeholders on the network and work with them whilst managing their expectations. Carolyne is also responsible for employee engagement on site and works hard to keep the M23 ‘ultra-site’ reputation high.

Cancellations will not be allowed less than 24 hours before the event, but substitutions can be made at any time.
